Two Christmas Traditions, Since 1892

Oklahoma’s oldest jeweler, since 1892…

You know the line, and you know the Jingle. But have you ever really thought about everything that has happened between then and now? It’s really quite remarkable when one takes the time to consider it.

Our company has been through two World Wars, twenty-two Presidents, the rise of the automobile, the invention of the television, and much, much more. From our store windows we’ve seen our state grow through an oil boom, survive an oil bust, and withstand an attack on the heart of our downtown core. We’ve been in this business for 124 Years. That means 124 Christmases!

And speaking of Christmas, we stumbled on to a fun Holiday fact this week. Back on December 18th, 1892, the very same year that Benton Clyde Clark opened his doors for the first time, Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky was preparing for the debut of his brand new Christmas ballet. The premier was to happen in the famous Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.

60 Years of Jingle Stories

Every year on Thanksgiving Day, the BC Clark Anniversary Sale Jingle bursts into the homes and hearts of anxious Oklahomans, kicking off the biggest jewelry and fine giftware sale of the year. But over time, The Jingle has come to represent something else, too.

For many Oklahomans, near and far, it signals the start of the Christmas season with a familiar and joyful tune known around the world.

In the 60 years since The Jingle first chimed over Oklahoma’s airwaves, many memories have been made, and stories have been told. Not a year has gone by that we haven’t received numerous letters and emails from people telling us how The Jingle has touched their lives. So we’ve chosen a few of our favorites to share here on the blog.

If you get inspired, we’d love to hear your story!  Simply click here to submit yours or read all the stories submitted by others.

A Family Tradition 60 Years in the Making

By now, you’ve probably seen our exciting news regarding Family Friday!

We are stepping up and making a commitment to our family of BC Clark employees. This Black Friday, all three of our locations will be closed, and we’ll be giving our staff an extra paid day of vacation to spend with friends and family.

But we also recognize that Family Friday has the potential to be MUCH bigger than just a day off for our employees. It is our hope that this special day becomes a beloved Oklahoma Holiday tradition, much like our Anniversary Sale Jingle.

Christopher Radko Signing Event

BC Clark Northpark, December 1, 3p-8p

Ambassador Jeff Clark will be personalizing ornaments. Ornaments can be purchased in advance at all three stores and held for signing during the event.

It Began with a Crash…

Once upon a Holiday Night, a Christmas tree fell and startled the Radko family household. With more than 1,000 vintage mouth-blown glass ornaments broken to bits, Christopher was distraught. Searching endlessly to replace them, he found nothing quite good enough to replace his treasured memories. He soon realized that the only option was to start from scratch. Thus began the creation of Christopher Radko Ornaments.

The magical heirlooms produced by the Christopher Radko Company have brought joy and happiness into homes worldwide, creating ever-lasting traditions throughout the years. Christopher Radko ornaments have decorated the White House, adorned the Kennedy Center, and garnished the personal collections of celebrities worldwide.

The OLIVIA RIEGEL Philosophy

His vision was to offer customers elegant bejeweled objects that incorporate vintage details with a modern sensibility. This vision continues as Jon’s designs are translated into a rich collection of handcrafted home décor, giftware, bridal goods, and women’s accessories.

At OLIVIA RIEGEL, we believe that bejeweled glamour deserves a place in everyone’s life. We endeavor to develop new items that are both innovative and true to a glamorous lifestyle. In so doing, we strive to push the boundaries of the industry, while listening to feedback from customers. The goal is to offer brilliantly executed creations that are beautiful, sophisticated, and relevant.
