Finding a diamond like ‘The Heart of Oklahoma’ is a once-in-a-generation experience. Extremely rare. 18.92 carats. Internally-Flawless. Fancy Intense Yellow. Valued at $1.2 million.
A diamond of this magnitude demands an extraordinary setting.
We joined forces with jewelry design house Harry Kotlar to design and craft the handmade masterpiece that would cradle the diamond. Kotlar, a legacy company with more than 70 years in the industry, was the logical partner because they understood from the start that this is more than a diamond to us. But more importantly, Harry Kotlar is among the most highly-regarded artisans in the industry, combining relevant design with old-world craftsmanship.
We selected a ring design reminiscent of the industrial revolution steam locomotive’s pilot grills with the use of tapered baguette diamonds. These are railroads, midwestern industrialism, art nouveau and tribal influences which are represented through using straight and curved lines as well as geometric shapes by the use of step cuts and special cut stones. The design team at Harry Kotlar went through great lengths to utilize historical aspects dear to BC Clark’s and Oklahoma’s legacy.
Kotlar also designed the setting for The Heart of Oklahoma’s sister diamond, ‘The Sol Diamond’ – a 5.01-carat diamond cut from the same rough.
We are very proud of this collaboration.
Seeing the finished design is truly a rewarding experience after this seven-year journey. In 2013, we set out to find a diamond worthy of honoring the BC Clark legacy and our home state. After searching the globe, we discovered this once-in-a-lifetime diamond. Cut from a 38.05-carat rough diamond that was mined off-shore Namibia, Africa, it was polished to perfection to a very specific carat-weight: 18.92 carats to honor BC Clark’s founding year–1892.
‘The Heart of Oklahoma’ diamond is back in Oklahoma City after being set into the ring at Harry Kotlar’s home base in California, and a short trip to Nashville, TN, where Carrie Underwood wore it at the 53rd CMA awards. The ring will be on display at our Downtown store on Friday, Nov. 15, and at our Penn Square Mall location on Saturday, Nov. 16, during regular store hours.
If you tuned into the opening performance of the 53rd Country Music Awards Wednesday night, you may have been blown away by the collective star power of Carrie Underwood, Reba McIntyre, and Dolly Parton. But if you looked a little closer, you may have noticed another star shining in the spotlight. Right there, center stage, BC Clark’s ‘The Heart of Oklahoma’ diamond in a Harry Kotlar masterpiece sparkled on Carrie Underwood’s finger.
It was a special moment for all of us at BC Clark to see this diamond that means so much to us worn by one of Oklahoma’s most accomplished and talented stars.
Carrie Underwood, who hosted and performed at the CMA’s, wore the diamond set in a magnificent ring design by the Harry Kotlar company while performing. ‘The Heart of Oklahoma’ sparkled in the spotlight, framed by colorless baguette diamonds.
‘The Heart of Oklahoma’ is an extremely rare 18.92-carat diamond graded Internally Flawless, Fancy Intense Yellow, valued at $1.2 million.
Seven years ago, Coleman and Mitchell Clark set out to find a diamond not only worthy of celebrating BC Clark’s legacy in Oklahoma but worthy of honoring the state itself and its people. Last year, we finally found a once in a generation diamond that was a perfect match. Cut from a 38.05-carat rough diamond that was mined off-shore Namibia, Africa, it was polished to 18.92 carats to celebrate our founding year, 1892. Then we worked with jewelry design house Harry Kotlar to design and craft the one-of-a-kind ring.
Considering that the diamond is a tribute to Oklahoma, we couldn’t have asked for anybody better to wear the ring than our fellow Oklahoman. The singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and actress was raised in Checotah, OK. Seeing a diamond dedicated to our home state worn by one of Oklahoma’s most successful music stars was thrilling for everyone at BC Clark.
The diamond ring will promptly return from Nashville to Oklahoma City to be on display at the BC Clark store in Downtown Oklahoma City on Friday, Nov. 15, and at the Penn Square Mall location on Saturday, Nov. 16, during regular store hours.
The holidays are here again! To get you into spirit, we created this fun gift guide. It features designers like Ippolita, John Hardy, Simon G, Roberto Coin, and more! Each piece was carefully picked based on the hottest trends of the year and the beautiful new fall arrivals.
They are all in a variety of price points with 90% of them being under $5,000. Stay tuned for more gift guides to come, including one of our favorites – “Big Looks for Less”.
And don’t forget, our annual Anniversary Sale has already begun! It is the best time of year to take advantage of special pricing on select brands, just in time for Christmas.
Ippolita, known for her shiny silver, bright gold, and bangles, created a new collection titled “Chimera”. For the first time, Ippolita introduced a new take on her traditional metals, by creating a mixed metal collection. What is unique about this collection is that although silver makes up a big portion of each piece, gold is at the forefront. This gives you a big gold look without the higher price points. This also allows you to mix and match all of your favorite metals and pieces for a stylish and seamless look.
Ippolita took many of her staple pieces from both collections to create this new look. Rings and necklaces from her renowned Cherish collection are now featured with a new and exciting twist. With pieces starting at just $500, you can introduce gold or silver for that matter into your everyday staple jewelry collection.
The Heart of Oklahoma is an 18.92 carat, extremely rare diamond graded internally flawless, fancy intense yellow. But it means so much more to us at BC Clark.
Over seven years ago, Coleman and Mitchell Clark set out to find a diamond worthy of honoring the BC Clark legacy and the state that has done so much for this 127-year-old family business. After searching the globe, the Clarks finally discovered this once-in-a-lifetime diamond.
Cut from a 38.05-carat rough diamond that was mined off-shore Namibia, Africa, it was polished to perfection to a very specific carat-weight: 18.92 carats to celebrate our founding year–1892.
We have been in the diamond business for 127 years. It was very important to us to find a diamond that would not only celebrate our company’s longevity and history but also the people of Oklahoma. This diamond’s color is as intense as an Oklahoma sunset and as faceted and spirited as our people.
When we saw it, we simply knew, this is The Heart of Oklahoma.
After being cut and polished in New York City, an excessive certification process followed. Eventually, it was designated as a Forevermark Exceptional Diamond and is the largest internally-flawless Forevermark Exceptional Diamond ever cut, according to Forevermark, a De Beers company.
Less than one percent of all diamonds are eligible to be Forevermark diamonds. Only a fraction of these is considered for the Forevermark Exceptional Diamonds Collection, as each Exceptional Diamond must adhere to strict standards of quality and ethics, and exceed a certain carat-weight.
The Heart of Oklahoma has a sister diamond. The Sol Diamond is a 5.01-carat Forevermark Exceptional Diamond cut from the same rough diamond.
The diamonds were revealed to the public today at our downtown store. People may view the diamond, tomorrow, Saturday, Sept. 14 from noon to 5 p.m. at BC Clark’s Northpark Mall location.
Harry Kotlar has been commissioned to craft both diamonds into custom-designed rings.
We chose to partner with the Harry Kotlar company because, like us, they are a legacy company and understand that this is more than a diamond to us. They are also one of the most highly-regarded artisans in the industry, combining relevant design with old-world craftsmanship.
We are proud and excited we were were able to bring this once-in-a-lifetime discovery to the people of Oklahoma, and share a diamond worthy of being called The Heart of Oklahoma with you, our customers and friends.
