To celebrate our 20th year of Pray for Rain, we decided to do something a little bit different. We wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate all marriages, including those of our more than 200 Pray for Rain winners. So we created a “Wedding Day Story contest” and asked our social media followers and email subscribers to submit their story. The winners would receive a dinner for two courtesy of BC Clark.
We were overwhelmed by all of the amazing stories and responses we received. After narrowing the entries down to three stories we asked our followers to vote for their favorite.
Below is the winning story. Thanks to everyone who entered!
“It was our wedding day, May 24, 2014 and nothing was going as planned. My aunt who was my hairdresser and make up artist had broken her wrist the day before the wedding, the fairy-tale carriage my mother hired to take me up the drive to the park took a wrong turn into traffic and I ended up being almost an hour late, then our outside reception got rained out, 100’s of dollars worth of food was ruined and we didn’t even get our first dance due to the DJ’s equipment getting soaked. At first we were both a bit upset about everything that had happened, but the friends and family members who stuck the rain out with us encouraged us to see the good in the day. Even though my hair and make up weren’t as expected, I was late to my own wedding, and we didn’t get a reception or a first dance we at least had a beautiful ceremony. The rain held out and the sun shined through as my dad walked me down the aisle to the song my husband proposed to me to, it held out until after we said our vows and nailed shut our forever box, and it also held out until after we said our I do’s and walked back down the aisle as Mr. & Mrs. Reyes. After really thinking about this we decided none of the mishaps had mattered because the ceremony was beautiful and we were still able to join together as one in front of friends and family as we had wanted. We forgot about all the bad instantly and decided to use the rain as an opportunity for amazing “ruin the dress and tux” photos! We had so much fun and the photos turned out great. Everyone told us our wedding would sure be the one to remember and every once in a while some of us still talk about it to this day. <3″
