1956 was quite a year!
Elvis Presley released his first hit, Heartbreak Hotel, the Cuban Revolution was getting ramped up, the average home cost only $11,000.00, and back here in Oklahoma two local icons were born.
60 Years of Public Television
This year, Oklahoma’s only PBS station celebrates 60 years on the air. From humble beginnings in a basement classroom, OETA has grown into an Oklahoma treasure and the most-watched statewide PBS station in the country. To celebrate 60 years of public television, OETA is throwing a 60th Anniversary Celebration, Thursday, October 20 at 6:30 p.m. The event will be held at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club.
The evening will dazzle with appearances by many of PBS’s brightest producers and stars plus a live musical performance by Atlantic Records Recording Artist Straight No Chaser.
